Alii Robinson smiles to camera

“Everyone is different. Everyone should feel beautiful, cherished, and confident in their own unique way.”

Since only Alii’s palate is cleft and not her lip, she has few visible scars.

Alii remembers some embarrassing moments with food and drink when she was at school. She recalls an awkward time hot chocolate came out of her nose due to the holes in the roof of her mouth.

Still, finally after receiving her 66th and last surgery, it gave her a jolt of confidence. She celebrated by doing the once unthinkable: being more open about her journey on social media.

She was nervous at first to post, but when she went viral and received a lot of positive feedback and support, it helped her to accept her facial difference.

Her advice for others with unique smiles: “Smile more often. You are beautiful!”
