Celebrated American anthropologist Margaret Mead once said, “Never doubt that the work of a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world. Indeed, it’s the only thing that ever has.”
We have certainly taken her words to heart. The idea for The Smile Train was conceived by a small group of people.
Our organisation is governed by a small Board of Trustees. And our staff that oversees 100,000+ surgeries a year and hundreds of partnerships and programmes in 78 of the world’s poorest countries consists of just 43 people.
Other charities that help similar numbers of children have hundreds of employees.
Yes, we are small and proud of it.
We make decisions, develop programmes and move much faster than larger charities.
We’re more responsive to our donors and much more in touch with our partners.
And because we save millions in salaries, offices and overheads, it means thousands of extra smiles every year.
  Margaret Mead would be proud.
